Day Thirteen

Iznájar


Leaving Córdoba after breakfast we headed back to Malaga and the coast but about half way we made a detour, leaving the motorway we travelled through the countryside passing Lucena and Rute and found our way to Iznájar. This is another of the white villages situated on and around a hillside that rises from the surrounding countryside.





The hill seems to rise above the lakes, but in fact they are three or four very large water reservoirs. Although they claim to have a beach area, I suspect that the water has receded too far. They certainly seemed very empty!

Walking up the long hill to the top in 30+ degrees is exhausting but the (very) small old quarter above the town is rewarding. They have taken great care to decorate the main viewing station from the town in a beautiful photogenic state. A city worker was actually painting the pots when we arrived!
