Iberian Adventure 2023

As you all know Katrina moved to Spain a couple of years ago and she is now living in a lovely villa in the town of Mijas, very close to Fuengirola and on the south coast.
We packed Karin´s Mini and on 7th September we set out with destination Mijas for the third time.
This is an account of our tour. I hope you can follow it and I hope the link at the bottom of each page functions so you can go from one day to the next, otherwise navigation on this sort of blog is difficult.

Day One

River Doubs

We made our way south at a rapid speed - no problems around Pforzheim and the A5 was kind to us. Crossed the border at Mulhouse and headed for the Doubs River. We came off the motorway just after Belfort and picked up the river at L´Isle-sur-le-Doubs, a small town but with a certain charm; a nice stop for the many cyclists and walkers who like the area.

L´Isle-sur-le-Doubs,

From here the road follows the river like the B27 and the Neckar from Bad Wimpfen to Eberbach (!) and is quite pretty. Stopped for a light lunch (Flammkuchen!) at Besançon. Very surprised! The pictures on Google looked uninteresting, but the old city is really pretty, situated on an island on the river. A place to come back to and stay overnight! Next time!

Besançon

Time to find our hotel: off to Dole. A few km further along the river, a real little jewel, as they say! A small town but full of French charm. The characteristic yellow brick (Dorset stone!) and paved streets. Situated on the river, our apartment room had a view of one of the small channels previously used by tanners (part of their water system is still to be seen).
