Day Nine

Arrival

We have arrived!

After eight days on the road we arrived here in time for a late breakfast after completing the final 120 km or so of our journey. A day to really chill out and enjoy the pool (as well as get the washing machine active!).

Mijas or Fuengirola

When you look at the map Fuengirola is a large spread out conurbation while Mijas is a small mountain village. However, both are about the same when it comes to residents with roughly 80 000 each. That is because areas which seem to belong to Fuengirola actually come under the administration of Mijas. Consequently the suburb of El Coto where Katrina lives is actually part of Mijas as it is north of the major road which divides the town but also allows speedy exit to places like Marbella or Malaga.

Fuengirola is the beach paradise. There is a coastline of almost 8 km of beaches with all sorts to choose from. You can have the classic "Torremolinos" with restaurants and cafes behind well-maintained beaches with deckchairs and sun umbrellas or you can find wide sandy beaches with little or no commerce and then there are small coves with no facilities except the friendly life guard who seems to be everywhere.

The morning started cloudy with grey clouds but by lunchtime, the weather had cleared up enough to go for a walk down the hill and into Fuengirola. Katrina´s villa lies at the foot of the hill that leads up to Mijas Pueblo - a beautiful "white village", but also on the hill behind the real tourist hotspot of Fuengirola.
Here are a few photos of our last visit.

Views of Los Boliches (east end)

For info on Fuengirola try: Fuengirola   (there is a menu to switch to German!).

Mijas, on the other hand, only 15 km away nestles below the mountains and is one of the famous "white villages". That deserves its own blog page!
