Day Twentytwo
Semur-en-Auxois
Travelling from Avignon to Stuttgart in one go was never an option, so I looked for a place to stay about half way. However, I thought we could look at the landscape around the town I chose. WRONG! After two errors on my behalf, in and around Lyon, we had a snack in Macon and made our way to Semur-en-Auxois. Situated northeast of Beaune, it looked delightful in google maps.
WOW!
What a place to end our journey! Although we will almost certainly stop off at a French supermarket on the way home (cider, real pate, Petit Marseille soaps) we will head straight for Stuttgart tomorrow. But, SeA is a great place to end: like Dole it is on the river, like Setenil it seems to fill a canyon and it has a unique French flavour: somewhat out-of-date, neglected, but where any film set in 1700 could be set! And our accommodation: first rate. A complete apartment with all modern conveniences as part of an annexe to the owner´s house - a real B&B - exactly as I like it! See for yourselves:
Our lodgings were situated right on the river, by the oldest bridge - the white house here - and we had our evening meal in the garden on the right of the house looking up at the town. Super!
Tomorrow: head for home and the job of deleting all the bad photos!!
Because I liked it so much, but only included the Dali Theatre pictures, I have added a few extra photos of Figueres town; Figueres
