Day Three
Bordeaux and St Emilion!!
Bordeaux is big! We drove there after breakfast in the garden and parked centrally. A large flea market with various traders was taking place on the river bank. A stroll along the promenade was enough to indicate how much time we would need to explore the city fully - another stopover on another day!!
Walking through the streets we met so many pale faces with ginger hair and green shirts! Irish fans for their rugby match against Romania. Rugby Fever was evident throughout the town - even Easter Eggs in the shape of a rugby ball. We strolled around, amazed at the size of the old quarter and the number of quite attractive shopping streets and alleys; although not all pedestrian zones, largely free of traffic.
Another flea market / dealer´s market and I bought a small copper printing plate for a talk I will do in October. And Karin walks away with a free poster! From and signed by the artist!
The heat started to become oppressive and we had missed the boat trip so we headed out of town to St Emilion. Our landlord had told us we should not miss it. He was right!
Situated on a slight rise the small town has a tower and a church which provide wonderful panoramas of the wine-growing area of L´Entre-Deux-Mers. And the winding cobbled streets are choc-a-bloc with wine shops (caves) and lovely boutiques. Much more my type of town!!
