Day Twentyone

Cadaques

Today´s blog was going to be about Avignon but I have changed my mind. It is going to be yet another Dali Day!! Salvador Dali lived most of his life in a small village about 40 minutes drive away from Figueres; it seemed a shame not to pass by. WOW.

Firstly the scenery is superb. We passed through normal countryside before climbing a serpentine road which leads over the low mountains to Cadaques. The view as you descend is beautiful, with a small white village nestled between the surrounding hills and a deep blue bay.

A twenty minute walk over a small hill brings you to the small bay of Port Lligat. This is where Dai first bought one fisherman´s hut to live in and slowly bought the neighbouring cottages until he had a large home with 300 m2 and a large garden. His sense of humour is everywhere to be seen.

We had no tickets but queued up anyway. The first tour was at 10 and we managed to get tickets for 10:20. Wonderful. A small group of 8 with a guide and plenty of time to ask questions and take pictures.

And the views of the bay he had are so beautiful.

Then it was a drive around the coast - very beautiful scenery.

Avignon

Although nice in its own way, Avignon is a tired French city, populated by too many students, bicycles and over-priced restaurants. Oh well! The morning was great!
